As a care partner, have you ever wondered why? We often say to ourselves “I didn’t sign up for this!” “Why me?”

We all have a preconceived script about how our lives will turn out but does it ever happen that way? Not often. When we attach to the belief that it should not be this way we end up suffering.

This niggling story runs like an endless loop in the back of our minds. It’s a story about how it could have and should have been different.

But what if we thought of it a bit differently? What if we realized that we have been called to be leaders, not just caregivers. You are the leader once you embark on this journey. You may be running the entire household, making all the decisions. You may be responsible for just about everything in your own life and the one you care for.

A good leader understands the value of a well-designed system, a system that includes compassion for themselves; a system that includes transforming their own consciousness.

It begins with self-care so that we are able and ready to be at one with ourselves and those we care for. When we practice self-care, we are transforming our world from separation to connection, from suffering to a beautiful state of being. We are ready to face each day as the leaders that we are.

I like to use the term ‘care partner’ instead of ‘caregiver’. When we are a care partner, we are in partnership with those we care for, no matter what state or stage they are in. As leaders, we must understand that our loved one is part of our team. When we make a decision, they are affected. If we are unable to work as a ”team” and make a fundamental shift in our consciousness, every change or decision we produce tends to collapse into further conflict, suffering, and isolation.

Remember –first consciousness then decision, then action.

If you need guidance in learning more about self-care or putting it into daily practice, reach out to me anytime.

In the meantime, please know that you have been called to be a leader. It may not be what you anticipated in your life but it is a calling of the highest nature.

Blessings to you,

Cheryl
